Healthy Cake

Chocolate Version

As much as a cake can be...this is quite of a great version! We can make chocolate and vanilla. I will keep exploring alternatives on the next few weeks and will add here.

But I can tell you this is a great choice as a healthy option, also is gluten free and can be dairy free as well just by changing the kind of milk you are using.

Absolutely delicious and really kills that craving for a sweet. Another great thing about this recipe is that you are not baking a huge cake that is going to be around your kitchen until someone finishes eating. This are individual doses divided in two tins, so it is really a very good option if you are in a restrict diet.

Another great thing about this cake is that is so easy to prepare. It is literally 5 minutes plus the oven time.

You could also make it more like a Lava Cake or cook more time in the oven and have a normal cake texture.

1/2 cup of rolled oats

1/2 Tbsp of cocoa powder

2/3 cups of milk of your choice

1/2 Tbsp of chia seeds

1/2 Tbsp of baking powder

1/2 banana

1 Tbsp of honey

Pinch of salt

Here if you want the dairy free version, just use almond milk or any other that you like. Honestly is up to you and your diet restrictions. Any kind of alternative milk should work perfectly well.

You could add more honey if you have a sweet tooth but doesn't really need. It isn't the most sweet cake in the world but it is enough for me as I normally don't eat sugars. Also you will get the sweetness of the banana.

Oats are among the healthiest grains on earth.

They’re a gluten-free whole grain and a great source of important vitamins, minerals, fibre and antioxidants.

Studies show that oats and oatmeal have many health benefits.

These include weight loss, lower blood sugar levels and a reduced risk of heart disease.

Cocoa is thought to have first been used by the Maya civilization of Central America.

It was introduced to Europe by Spanish conquerors in the 16th century and quickly became popular as a health-promoting medicine.

Cocoa powder is made by crushing cocoa beans and removing the fat or cocoa butter.

Today, cocoa is most famous for its role in chocolate production. However, modern research has revealed that it does indeed contain important compounds that can benefit your health.

Place all the ingredients in the food processor and mix for a couple of minutes and it is ready to put in the tin.

If you would like you can process the oats first and then add the other ingredients. I do both versions and they don't make much of a difference.

Divide in two Pyrex tins. A few bits of dark chocolate in the middle and place in the oven for 15 minutes 175 C fan assisted if you want a Lava Cake and 25 minutes if you want more like a cake texture.
